GLYCO-PROSIDE TECHNOLOGY

Natural Systemic
Bactericides

Objective

Natural compounds delivered directly into plants

Citrus and olive production have been devastated both in the US and Europe in recent years by Citrus Greening and Pierce’s disease respectively. Both are caused by gram-negative bacterial diseases (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus and Xylella fasidiosa) that lie deep within the plant and for which no cure or efficient preventative treatment yet exists.

Using our novel technology, we are designing novel antibacterial delivery systems to selectively deliver natural antibacterial and biofilm busting compounds deep into the veins of these plants through foliar application

Due to the nature of these highly invasive diseases, Glycoscience is working closely with the Centre for Innovation and Development in Plant Health (CIDSA) of the University of Girona (Spain), which is one of the few centers in Europe that has suitable containment facilities to work with Xylella fastidiosa and Citrus Greening models.

GLYCO-PROSIDE TECHNOLOGY

Natural Pre and Postemergence
Herbicides
The natural replacement for Glyphosate

Objective

Natural herbicide innovations to replace harmful synthetic products

Many single-mode-of-action synthetic herbicides are being removed from the market due to toxicity concerns and almost all are rapidly losing efficacy due to weed resistance. No new herbicides have been developed to take their place in recent decades.

Many natural products display excellent preemergence herbicidal activity, but their poor physicochemical properties, such as high volatility and low stability, make them unsuitable for commercial application. Inspired by nature, with the help of the University of Lleida (Spain), we are developing novel, low-cost conjugates that will provide resource efficient long duration natural pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicidal solutions.

GLYCO-PROSIDE TECHNOLOGY

Long Lasting Natural
Post-Harvest

antifungal treatments

Objective

Combat some of the main post-harvest fungal infections with natural solutions

Approximately half of all fruit and vegetables are lost, between harvest and consumption, primarily to fungal decay. Post-harvest treatment with synthetic fungicides has traditionally been employed to combat this huge issue, but many are being withdrawn from the market due to toxicity issues and there is an increasing consumer demand for effective natural solutions.

Through independent proof-of-concept studies performed at the Institute Agrifood Research and technology (IRTA), Spain), we have demonstrated that our novel bioinspired Glyco-Proside technology can deliver a long-lasting antifungal effect to combat some of the main post-harvest fungal infections.
