Mosquitoes and Ticks on the Rise: A Growing Public Health Threat in Spain

According to a recent article from La Vanguardia (June 3, 2025), the Catalan Association of Environmental Health Companies (ADEPAP) has warned about the alarming rise in mosquitoes transmitting diseases across Spain. The tiger mosquito and the common mosquito are now responsible for spreading viruses like dengue, zika, chikungunya, and West Nile fever.

Current climate conditions—mild winters, abundant rainfall, and rising temperatures—have accelerated the appearance of these vectors and increased the risk of local transmission of diseases once considered tropical or imported.

ADEPAP emphasizes that mosquitoes should no longer be seen as a simple nuisance but as real carriers of pathogens. Climate change, combined with the rise of ticks such as Hyalomma lusitanicum, is complicating the situation further, with more frequent human, equine, and avian cases being reported.

Prevention, public awareness, and active monitoring are essential to reduce the growing threat these vector-borne diseases pose.

In this context, Glycoscience offers a safe and natural alternative: GLYCO-PROTEC, an insect repellent with proprietary controlled-release technology, now available in Spain under the trusted Filvit® brand by Laboratorios ERN.
